To meet these evolving needs, Vallourec is introducing two new high‑torque connections engineered for shale: DWC/C‑XT and VAM® XTRA.

Both deliver step-change torque performance while maintaining the trusted running behavior, durability, and quality that operators expect. Designed in Houston, tested in-house, and manufactured across our U.S. facilities, these new offerings give operators more capability without changing their normal operations.

DWC/C XT: Extreme Torque with Buttress Compatibility

DWC/C-XT is the latest evolution of our proven DWC/C family, now offering the highest torque performance of any buttress connection on the market. It provides a cost-efficient option for operators who want more torque without moving to a premium connection and without giving up the versatility and flexibility of buttress threaded and coupled (BTC) accessories. This latest option delivers smooth running, clean breakouts, and easy remakes that field teams rely on, while maintaining the reliable sealability DWC/C is known for.

VAM® XTRA: Premium Shale Gas Performance for Extended Laterals

VAM® XTRA is our new premium threaded and coupled connection for ultra-high torque shale gas applications, especially extended laterals where operators need maximum capability and reliability.

A company man on a recent job noted that the additional operational torque proved valuable, as they needed the full rotational capability to get the casing to bottom. He also reported no changes in rig operations compared to their previous well design using VAM® 21 HT.

Proven in the Field

In early 2026, DWC/C-XT completed a successful installation in the Permian Basin with over 25,000 ft run, zero backouts, and no operational disruptions. This run utilized a slim coupling option of DWC/C-XT to fit the operator’s slim well design.

 

Within days of that run, two additional operators installed DWC/C-XT in the Mid Con and Rockies regions with the same smooth performance.

 

VAM® XTRA also achieved a successful first run with a major Haynesville gas operator, completing the installation without issues and demonstrating strong operational rotation performance.

Tested for the Realities of Shale

Both designs were qualified using Vallourec’s VAM® Shale Protocol, incorporating elements of API RP 5SF (2019) and API 5C5 (2017) to simulate shale specific loading scenarios.

 

  • Fatigue cycling with high dogleg bending
  • Up to 100 cycles of maximum internal pressure with and without tension to simulate stimulation stages
  • Series B liquid and gas production sealability tests under high temperature and bending
  • Final limit-load tests to confirm operational limits
